League to adopt Play-Cricket results system
March 29, 2017
We will be using Play Cricket for most of the match Administration this season. Please see the below documents for an overview of the procedures and a basic guide to getting your players registered for the coming season. There will be further guidance on entering summary results and the full scorecards nearer the start of the season.
Adel, Farnley Hill, Leeds Sikh and Thornbury are invited to try out the system over the next week as they already have active Play- Cricket sites so should find it easier to propose players for League registration. Bradford League Clubs may also have player details available. Other Clubs may need to pursue their players to become members of their own sites before attempting to register them with the League.
There will be some guidance on the registration procedure and on entering results at an extra meeting at Pudsey Congs on Thursday 30th March at 7.30pm. Any questions unresolved at that meeting may be followed up after the Pre-season meeting on 13th April.
In order to resolve the problems with fixtures and results administration arising from Ken’s resignation the Executive Committee have decided to adopt, initially on a trial basis, Play-Cricket.
Most of our Clubs already had a Play-Cricket account site though not all of them were active . Account sites have been created for those without a site, and I understand that all these new sites have now been activated.
The fixtures have been uploaded to the site and can be viewed directly or via the revamped existing Dales Council site.
As part of the trial all players will have to be registered with the League site to replace the lists submitted to Ken over the last few years. This means all the players who will be representing a Club must first become members of that Club’s site and must then also be proposed for registration with the League. The registration process through the Club’s site requires at a minimum that players submit their Name and Address, with post code, date of birth and Country of birth. Their status will normally be Category 1 for recreational cricket. The player will need to log on to the Club site and activate their membership before they can be proposed for League registration.
Players will have to be accepted as League Registered before they are eligible to play so the cut off time for registration will be noon on Friday before the weekend rather than a last minute message at 1.00pm just before the team cards are completed.
Procedures after the game have also changed. The Home team will be required to enter a summary of the result to their Club Play-Cricket site to the same deadlines and with the same information as at present (i.e.by 8.30pm on the match day with scores and any outstanding performances). Fines will be imposed if this is not done before midnight. This has been tested from an Android device and an iPhone and it worked as well as from a desktop.

The full scoresheet must then be input by midnight on the day after the match. This would be fiddly on a phone so a full sized keyboard is recommended. The same details are required as on the current report sheet, and, as at present, it should all balance.
(The procedure for reporting Umpires’ marks has still to be finalised)
To prepare this report both teams will have to be selected from the players registered with the League for each Club; anyone not registered can only be entered as “unsure” which will make it easier to levy penalties for illegal players.
Once completed the scoresheet will be available on the Clubs’ sites and on the League site. They will be left unlocked until Tuesday evening for any discrepancies to be corrected by the Away side and for the details to be compared with the Umpires’ report cards. After that they will be locked and no further amendments will be allowed except in exceptional circumstances.
The League averages will be compiled automatically as results are input over the season, and the League tables have been set up on the same basis. The tableland averages will be available for inspection at all times.
Results for Cup Matches will follow the same procedures.
If the trial is adjudged a success then Rules 19 and 32 will need to be redrafted for 2018. Until then Clubs should abide by the spirit of those rules, if not the precise wording. Fines will not be enforced strictly as Clubs get accustomed to the new systems in the first few weeks of the season but will be applied from the first weekend in June.
There are still some refinements to be added to the League site functions. Once these have been completed there will be a demonstration session for all those Club personnel likely to be involved in inputting information with step by step guides available. This session has been arranged, provisionally for Thursday 30 March at Pudsey Congs.
It may be possible to upload the scoresheet from TCS if you use that, but recent disagreements between ECB and the licensors might break this function. ECB are launching Play-Cricket Scorer for the 2017 season and this will have the facility to upload information directly to our site. The app is claimed to be available for Android and iOS.
The new site address is www.dccl.play-cricket.com.
The other Dales Council site which has links to it is at www.dalescouncil.co.uk
Registration on Play-Cricket as a League Registered Player
First requirement is for all the players you wish to register with the League to complete their full personal details on YOUR Club Play-cricket website.
As a minimum this requires their Name, Date of Birth, Postal Address with Post code, Player status (normally Category 1 for recreational cricket),and Country of Birth.
The player needs to log on to your Club site and activate their membership.
Once these details have been completed and the player is accepted on the Club website then a Main Administrator on the Club site needs to log on into the Site Administration level and click on Members, and then on Member Database.
Select the first player to be registered and click on the icon in Edit Roles, then on the header for League Registered Players.
Check all the mandatory fields have been completed [Any missing information will be highlighted in the box at the top of the screen] Without this information the registration cannot proceed. The Administrator should not make any amendments to this page unless it is to correct the player status. Any amendments must be saved before you proceed.
Click Apply.
If a registration already exists for the player , or one with similar details, you can select the radio buttons to refine the search in order to eliminate duplications or clashes. If the player is already registered with another Club then a YCB transfer form will be required.
Select the correct person you require to register and click Next, and then check any duplicate records shown.
Click Next.
This brings up the Standard Nomination form. Complete the yes/no boxes as appropriate, and add any further information you require or which may help in the judgement of whether the player will be accepted as a League Registered player.
Click Save.
The Roles for Nnnnnnn screen will reappear with the status shown as pending.
If anything needs to be changed before the registration is accepted then on this screen you press the withdraw button. You can then correct the application and continue the above steps to Apply. A confirmation message appears at the top of the screen.
Click the Back button to return to the database and proceed with the next player
Once the application has been approved the Play- Cricket system automatically issues confirmation e-mails to the player, and to all in the Administration group on the Club site.
